This position requires collaboration with crisis intervention staff, monitoring of the behavior management system, and an active participant in crisis intervention and de-escalation of students. Communication is critical in the position as this person gives feedback to direct employees, other Kiefer staff, students/parents, and collateral resources. The person must be flexible, calm, and have the ability to "think on their feet" and prioritize. Each day is different with some days being spent primarily trouble shooting despite what was planned. This position is key in working with the Kiefer leadership team and providing input to the behavior management system. This is an active position with little time at a desk during the school day.
Education and Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in social work or behavioral science field with three years of appropriate and successful full-time experience in working with behavior and/emotionally disturbed youth - Paraprofessional Certificate is required at the time of application - The preferred candidate will have a thorough knowledge of youth development, childhood trauma, special education, and a school based system in addition to experience working in a setting with youth and children exposed to trauma
Skill Requirements: - Able to work on a multi-disciplinary team - Observation skills - Able to give effective feedback - Ability to use computer technology - High level of verbal and written communication skills - Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children, staff and families serve - Has advanced knowledge that comes with relevant experience in the field of child welfare
Physical Requirements: - Hearing and speaking ability that allows for effective oral and written communication of information - Ability to physically transport self and students to multiple sites - Ability to physically restrain students as needed - Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job-related issues and stress
