The P.E. teacher provides academic and instruction through the modality of team sports to students on a daily basis. They play a critical role in that they provide social skill opportunities for each student in their daily programming. They serve as role models for students. The PE teacher must not only provide for the development of the physical needs of students, but also provide opportunities for social skill and behavioral improvements as well. Teachers work directly with students from 8:30 am to 2:30pm. Job Function: The PE teacher is responsible for planning, coordinating and leading the physical education classes for all of Kiefer School, is familiar with the IEP, and maintains professional boundaries and demeanor. Job Qualifications: - Minimum BA/BS in education with a teaching license endorsed for Physical Education. - Experience working with special education students and/or students exposed to trauma preferred - Experience with an adapted physical education program preferred - Ability to relate effectively to children and their parents - Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in students, staff and families served - Effective written and oral communications - Ability to work independently and within a treatment team - Ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner - Ability to use computer technology - Hearing and speaking ability which allow for effective oral communication of information - Physical ability to perform physical restraints - Ability to pass DCFS Background
