Kiefer School provides special education for children who experience difficulty in their home school due to severe emotional, behavioral and/or learning challenges. The goal is to improve a child’s ability to function within the public school setting by providing intensive intervention in small classrooms and a range of treatment and support services to the student and their family. Kiefer is an AdvancEd accredited, ISBE-approved private school.
A substitute teacher at Kiefer School is a job that is filled with variety. Substitutes will be assigned to various classrooms in the absence of regularly assigned teachers. Substitutes will encounter a wide array of ages, ability levels and disabilities at Kiefer.
Job Function:
Effectively carries out lesson plans and behavior intervention plans in the absence of the teacher while maintaining professional boundaries, demeanor and classroom control
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Substitute Teacher’s Certificate, Teaching Certificate, and certification in Special Education preferred- Experience working with special education students desirable- Demonstrates the ability to relate effectively to students, parents and staff- Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children, staff and families served- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing- Works effectively within a treatment team- Ability to handle job related matters in a professional, confidential manner- Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information- Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related problems and stress
