A Special Education Teacher provides academic and behavioral instruction to students on a daily basis in a classroom of up to 10 students. They play a critical role in that they carry out the IEP requirements for each student in their daily programming. They are the main change agent for students’ academic and behavioral growth. They serve as role models for students. A Special Education Teacher must not only provide for the academic needs of students, but also for the social skill and behavioral needs as well.
JOB FUNCTION: Evaluates and improves each child’s academic and behavioral functioning, establishes and carries out the IEP by implementing daily programming, involves parents as active treatment participants, and maintains professional boundaries and demeanor.
