Family Support Worker-Good Beginnings Program

Are you passionate about working with children and families? If so, Children’s Home has a great opportunity for you! We are currently looking for an individual to join our Good Beginnings Team as a Family Support Worker. In this role you would work with parents and children under the age of 5 to provide education, support, and resources through home visiting. 

Job Responsibilities: 
The Family Support Worker generally works with first time at risk participants in Peoria or Tazewell Counties. The FSW is expected to provide services in a variety of virtual home settings with a flexible schedule that will meet the varied needs of the participant. Evenings and occasional weekend work is required to ensure flexibility in meeting the needs of the families served.

FSWs utilize their own vehicle to get to home visits and other program activities so reliable transportation is a must.The FSW encourages healthy development of the baby and assist the new mother in developing knowledge and skills needed to nurture and protect her child from neglect and abuse.

Job Function:
Provides comprehensive virtual home visiting and parent education to first time, at-risk pregnant women. Uses community resources to provide linkage and support to program participants and their families.

- High School diploma or GED required.
- Associates in Child Development or Human Services preferred.
- Experience in working with at-risk families, young children a plus.
- Knowledge of normal child growth/development and parent-child relationships.
- Ability to relate to families from a strength-based model.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as an active team member.
- Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children and families served.
- Ability to handle job related manners in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Hearing and speaking ability to allow for effective oral communication of information.
- Physical and emotional stamina to handle job related issues.
- Ability to transport self and clients to various locations.
