Speech and Language Pathologist, Academy for Autism

Job Responsibilities:
The Academy for Autism Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the individual and group speech/language therapy for Academy students. The Speech Language Pathologist is expected to attend IEP meetings as needed and to present goals and updates as requested for students. The Speech Language Pathologist position is part of the IEP team for students requiring Speech and/or Language services. Therefore, the ability to collaborate and communicate is vital.

Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology (preferred/available).
- Certified Speech and Language Therapist with Illinois State Board of Education or Licensed Speech and Language Pathologist.
- Experience with children with Autism, children exposed to trauma and skill in signing are highly desirable.
- Ability to relate effectively to children and their parents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a IEP team.
- Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children, staff, and families served.
- Knowledge of childhood trauma.
- Strong organization, record keeping, and assessment skills.
- Ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner.
- Ability to use computer technology.
- Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information.
- Ability to physically transport self and students to various locations.
- Physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related problems and stress.
- Physical ability to initiate and assist in physical restraints.
